Full Description:
1. Leave Grange-over-Sands Tourist Information Centre turn left and walk
towards the station with Ornamental Gardens on the right. Turn left into
Windermere road just before the garage. Some distance along this road,
turn left through a stile signposted Hampsfield. Follow this path uphill.
It is well signposted through Eggerslack Wood by yellow and green arrows.
2. After a long climb the path turns left over a stile and onto open fell. To reach the Hospice take the signposted track 'Public Footpath to Hampsfell'. This is a rutted track and leads directly away from the wall. Within about 50 yds four tracks meet. Bear right along a deeply rutted track for a further 75 yds until you reach a Y-junction. Bear left at this point and climb the fell for just over a quarter of a mile. Look for the stone stile to your right in the wall ahead. Go through the stile and bear right follow the yellow arrows to the Hospice. Hampsfell summit is 730' high. This affords magnificent view all round.
3. To return to Grange take the path heading South. This is clearly signposted through stiles. At a triangle of paths be sure to keep to the left, skirting the hill ahead. Round the hill there is a stile. Going straight ahead the path takes a sharp slope downwards. Then turn left, walking towards a gate on to a narrow road.
4. Turn left onto the road and follow the road round
to the right in a loop. At Spring Bank turn left down a track. On entering
a farm yard there is a stile over the wall on the left. Climb the field
to another stile. Turn left and follow this path along the wall until
reaching Ashmount Road. Turn right down the hill and turn left into Grange
Fell Road. This road leads back into Grange
